Welcome to the Portland Secondary College Library.

8.30am – 4.30pm

Open from 1.00 -1.30 pm during lunchtime every day.

Closed during recess.

When students or staff enter the PSC Library for the first time, they comment on how big and bright the space is.

Students gather before school to read the newspapers and have a quiet catch up. Teaching staff collect resources, bulk loans and class sets for classes.

During class times, two classes can be seen researching or reading silently. VCE students work quietly and independently in their study area. The library staff collaborate with teaching staff to help students develop information literacy skills. Students collect AV equipment such as flip cameras and digital cameras for recording projects in electives.

At lunch time students arrive to play quiet board games, read quietly or catch up on homework.

Students select fiction books to read during the “whole school “ 15 minutes reading time.

The library remains open after school for students to study quietly and for teachers to meet with small groups or to plan work units.

The library is a vibrant, essential part of Portland Secondary College’s learning community.

Lachlan Arthur

The Library supports the learning and teaching goals of our school by providing facilities, resources and materials to support improved learning outcomes.

It is a “shared space” that aims to provide an environment that is conducive to study for senior students and active research for classes and small groups.

It provides a range of resources to support curriculum areas, and recreational reading resources for staff and students.

All of the print and Audio Visual resources in the school are catalogued through the library allowing resources to tracked in all areas of the school.

The library catalogue is accessible anywhere in the school through the Intranet. The Amlib management system is used.
