VCD International Career Development Award

Elise Travers with her logo hand picked by legendary Chef, Thierry Marx.

Budding graphic designer Elise Travers has received a significant endorsement from French chef and molecular gastronomist Thierry Marx, with her logo design hand-picked by the legendary chef as part of Shared Tables. Elise designed the logo as part of her VCE Visual Communication class, and she was one of two in her class whose image was sent directly to the world renowned chef in Paris for his final say. The logo is now used in print and online as part of the Thierry Marx Career Development Award for Apprentice Chef’s. The Thierry Marx Career Development Award provides the opportunity for two Victorian apprentice chefs, to travel to Paris, France and work under the guidance of Thierry Mar, dual Michelin starred chef at his restaurant, Sur Mesure, at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Paris. For Elise, the recognition from such a highly touted source is unbelievable."He liked the simplicity and uniqueness of the logo," Elise said.Much like a professional graphic designer, Elise and her class worked from a rigorous design brief under a strict timeline. "The process took about three weeks from inception to the final piece."The design brief was very specific; it needed to be simple, circular and fit in with the rest of his logos.Understandably, Elise also scored quite high for her work in the class outcome too. With an endorsement from the world’s highest paid chef, Elise’s has taken a huge first step toward her dream of becoming a graphic designer. Winners are grinners.
