VET

Vocational Education and Training delivered to Secondary school students aims to support quality vocational pathways and provide options for all students.

Successful completion of a two-year course will result in the award of a Certificate II or Statement of Attainment for the units completed. These units will contribute towards a Certificate for the course. Failure to complete both years will only provide the student with several Units of Competency (outlined by a Statement of Attainment) but will not provide the student with a Certificate of Completion.

TAFE Offerings

Portland Secondary College has a partnership agreement with TAFE who have indicated they will deliver the following VET courses. This is subject to change, as courses are dependent on students’ interest. In the past few years the courses on offer have included:

  • Certificate III Early education & Care (part completion)
  • Certificate III Health Services Assistant (part completion)
  • Certificate III Make Up (part completion)
  • Certificate III Business (part completion)
  • Certificate II Conservation and Ecosystem Management
  • Certificate II Electrotechnology
  • Certificate II Engineering
  • Certificate II Cookery
  • Certificate II Active Volunteering (Project Ready)

Certificate III courses are a part completion, not the full Certificate but can be continued after a student has exited the College.

VET classes run on a Thursday at SWTAFE Portland Campus (Hurd St, Portland). Cookery is held at the Trade Training Centre (TTC) located at PSC.

SWTAFE is entirely responsible for the delivery of these programs, including teaching, behavior management, attendance, and pastoral care.

Students are to travel to SWTAFE from PSC using the provided bus, to minimize class absence.

There are other VET courses on offer and students wishing to study a VET course at SWTAFE need the approval from the Senior team at PSC.

VCE students wishing to study a VET course at SWTAFE need the approval of the VCE Manager.
