(RE)Connect is an educational program intended for young people in Years 7 to 10 who have not been in regular attendance at school for some time.
(RE)Connect provides learning support for students who, for a range of reasons, have not been attending school, to re-enter a regular learning setting.
The aim of (RE)Connect is to be a bridge to regular learning settings such as mainstream schooling (either part or full time), Re-Engagement, TAFE or employment.
The time spent in (RE)Connect will vary, but the purpose is to provide skills and support to equip students to return to these settings.
For the vast majority of students, being with their peers at school is the best environment for them to thrive. (RE)Connect is not in itself a qualification or ‘certificate’, but rather a way of building individualised literacy and numeracy skills in a very supportive environment. Students develop an Attendance Improvement Plan as part of their Individual Learning Plan and are mentored in building confidence in order to address the issues that have impacted on their attendance at school. The mentoring relationship is a key element of the program. Although students aren’t expected to attend school, they are still expected to commit to challenging the reasons why they are not attending school. This may include engaging with counsellors, doctors and Mental Health professionals.
A very specific set of enrolment criteria must be met to enrol in the (RE)Connect Program with most students who are at risk of disengaging with school, directed towards the Re-Engagement program.
